Virtual Reality (HTC Vive)

The team have been experimenting with virtual reality to see what the current technology is able to do, and how it may be harnessed within the classroom.

We have purchased a HTC Vive, powered by a high-end PC, and are in the process of setting up a permanent space to allow anyone at the University to experience the technology.

Our first step was to view the 3D render of the Tech Park, due to open September 2018. I’ve looked through the blue-prints a number of times but to have the opportunity to “walk the corridors”, virtually at least, is a whole new experience.

Secondly, we downloaded Google’s Tilt Brush, which allows users to digitally paint 3D images. I was amazed by the detail and very keen to see what our art students will make of it.
